In fairness, it's just a free speech spirit animal mantra. In our current political micro-climate, what you can write and read as an individual on the internet is fair play for censorship, but what libraries can carry is not. It's all principle-free tribal silliness.

The noticeable thing about Hitchens was how non-tribal he was. He'd lay into anybody, whether they were liberals, conservatives or even nuns.

Apparently Dawkins has slightly backed off of his sneering at organized religion. I wonder if Hitchens would have done the same. I think the past 10 years have provided plenty of observable evidence about what happens to human minds when a culture veers away from organized religion.
