I'll never forget the elevator behavior on a cruise ship I was on. The Asian, Chinese I think, tourists would cut into the elevator as soon as the doors opened, without a care to any courtesy about who was waiting first.

Though, bad tourist behaviour is not only Westerners. In Thailand, the mainland Chinese have become the biggest number of tourists. Most storekeepers, etc. do not like them, but like the money. LOL

Yes, not long before the COVID outbreak, I visited Thailand and saw that, as far as signage goes, Chinese was the second most frequently used language, overtaking even English in many places.
And yes, I have also seen many signs in Japan that advise foreign tourists to be nice, polite, and respectful of Japanese customs.

That is funny. That is something that makes me mad also, especially when I am ON the elevator and need to get off. People barge on without waiting. Arrrrgh!!!!
(PS though even my mom does it no matter how many times I try to train her!!!!).

My parents in law had a similar observation, I believe in Rome. There would be a line to get into Vatican City or some such location, and when it opened, the Chinese tourists would just bum rush to get in first. Seems to be a cultural expectation that cutting in line is just what happens.

My friend went to the world expo in China several years ago. He said they had roped queues to the exhibits with barriers every 10 feet. In each section people were bunched up against the end of the barrier and when it a barrier section opened, there was as mad dash to push up against the next barrier.
The result was an odd scene with people clustered together every 10 feet.

Many years ago, in Hawaii, at the airport getting on a flight to one of the other islands, on a small, probably 19 passengers, plane. No Jetway, just walk across the tarmac to the plane.
Most of the passengers were Japanese. The second the rope dropped the Japanese tourists bolted for the plane. Men, women, children, old and young - running full speed. I had no idea what was happening.
