OK, so we're in Las Vegas.

I looked. The pirate show is no more, replaced by an Avengers themed something or other.

Really? How frigging stupid. That show was fantastic. Great music and singing, really incredible stunts and pyrotechnics, and hot girls dressed as sirens and Pirates. That’s a damn shame. And what the hell does The Avengers have to do with Treasure Island?

Shows you how long it’s been since I was there… Actually, it would have been 2012… And that trip was the one with the thunderstorms. I remember thinking I could cross this one street, the water was only 3 inches or so… Then I saw the police officer get bowled over…

Mik, I highly recommend driving up to Valley of Fire State Park while you are there. It about 45 minutes out of Vegas. It is truly other worldly.

We'd be there tomorrow if it weren't for Hilary. We'll be back at Christmas.
The thing I really want to do is take the girls out to show them the dark sky desert at night. Nothing like it. That'll be close to 100 miles out.

That’s right, you have that hurricane.
Seems to be something everywhere. We’re burning up here.

Went out to Red Rock Canyon yesterday, was next to a big storm. Not much rain on us but we got to see flash flooding in the desert up close. Pretty cool. Beautiful scenic drive. I wish this pic did it justice, but you just have to see it.

We also cruised the strip yesterday. I haven't been here since 1976. It's like Times Square x 1000. Grotesque, like in a sci-fi dystopia.

Agree. And you constantly smell pot. Every second you’re on it.

that's my impression of new york
and yes vegas, its pretty ridiculous
last time there i stayed at the venetian. the fake venice with the gondolas and fake blue sky, it just seemed so weird and disney like.
but i guess if you are a provincial american and never strolled thru the calles of venice, or seen the grandeur of the ponte di rialto or the grande canale, its something to experience

Yes NYC is like that now too. Not as bad, I mean it isn’t constant. But you can’t walk 15m without smelling it.

I remember a couple blocks near 42nd street where there were dozens of drug sellers operating in the open - coke and smoke.
Outside those few blocks were 2-man teams of police on just about every corner. It's like they yielded these couple blocks to the dealers.
Of course this was 30 years ago. I have no idea how it looks now.

Times squares looks also looks like Disneyland
But at least in New York it’s a change for the good
When I lived in New York 42 street was only porn theaters whores and drug dealers. Now, it’s 90% gawking tourists and brand name stores
The other 10% are New Yorkers who accidentally wandered into a tourist zone.

Well, Hilary was not a huge deal here. We got 1-3" of rain over three days in bands, never really heavy. It'll be good for Lake Mead but dwarfed by the record snowpack this past winter.

Depends on whether he means 15 meters or 15 minutes.

At the airport, ready to go home. One thing I really love about this town is the cornucopia of healthy, lower calorie fresh food. We learned in Hawaii that Vegas has a big Hawaiian population, so Poke joints are everywhere. They also have a lot of great soup, sandwich and salad places.
