That boy is just trying his best to placate young voters because he tanked on student debt.

Not sure whether the DOE has the authority to do this.

I don't know about you old-timers, but I haven't bought a filament light bulb in years.

Nor have I. I have a stash of about 8 60-watt floods in a closet. Sadly, the ones in the kitchen refuse to burn out.

I have a stash of real floods too.

Didn't someone else already try this? Mr. Clinton maybe.

Somehow it got turned around, I can't remember why, a jurisdiction problem maybe, or it was just a stupid idea or at the time there weren't enough led bulbs in the world.

Can we forget politics for a second?

LED bulbs last WAY longer and are much CHEAPER to use. No brainer. Who cares about the politics? If you spend a few more bucks per bulb you'll more than save that in electricity costs each month and year.

Like the DOC said, I almost only buy LED bulbs these days.

That being said, the inability to buy incandescent (presuming that is true, I haven't checked) is a bit sad. If not from a historical perspective, but from a freedom/consumer perspective.

Although last winter I tried using incandescent christmas lights outdoors and they were so damn fragile that I used LED versions. Will never go back.

Right? I don’t miss having 90W heaters installed inside each of my 10W light bulbs.

Still, I don’t support making them disappear by fiat.

Old house like ours has fixtures that look so much better with the right incandescent bulbs. We use some LED bulbs if they are not really visible, but many others need the old style bulbs for appearance that fits the house.

Sometimes you need the warmth of an incandescent. Well shed in the winter, etc.

I don't think banning them is really a good idea. I'd much rather Congress focused on something important, such as adopting the metric system or reinstating the monarchy and/or Windows 98. As Joe says, God save the Queen!

I think most all of us use LEDs. The market will take care of that. This edict is just political window dressing.

Happy to see they excluded some incandescent bulbs. Appliance bulbs for one. We had what is probably a 50 year old oven bulb go out the other day. An LED would just melt in an oven.

Incandescent light bulbs are now largely banned, so one fan spent a paycheck stockpiling 3,500 bulbs he said should last 75 years

@taiwan_girl I have about a dozen 65 watt incandescent flood lights in a closet.

I keep waiting for the installed ones to burn out, but they are stubborn, and refuse to do so.

Yeah, I also have a small stash of incandescent bulbs (including a three-way bulb for which I have never seen an LED equivalent); I bought them well over a decade ago. I only use them in very few spaces where I want to be able to dim the light down to a very faint glow. When it comes to dimming, incandescent can still dim much more than LED can.

I have some dimming LED bulbs and the problem I have is that the amperage(?) (maybe something other than amperage) going through the circuit causes the LED to "flicker" at low dim light.

                                    Has anybody else experienced this?

Yes, that’s a fairly common problem with LED lights when it comes to dimming.

@taiwan_girl There is no good, commercially available solution that I know of at this time. Just need to wait for the technology to catch up.
