I have almost no problem with funding travel and security for government employees.

    He's not.

He served his country well and got paid for it pretty heavily

If you're OK with providing transportation and security for former government employees, who get it? When does it (if ever) stop? What are the guidelines and who decides?

The AG decides. Srsly though, why do former presidents and their families get protection when they are no longer government employees?

That is a matter of legislation.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Former_Presidents_Act

From 1965 to 1996, former presidents were entitled to lifetime Secret Service protection, for themselves, spouses, and children under 16. A 1994 statute, Pub. L. 103–329, limited post-presidential protection to ten years for presidents inaugurated after January 1, 1997.[8] Under this statute, Bill Clinton would still be entitled to lifetime protection, and all subsequent presidents would have been entitled to ten years of protection.[9] On January 10, 2013, President Barack Obama signed the Former Presidents Protection Act of 2012, reinstating lifetime Secret Service protection for his predecessor George W. Bush, himself, and all subsequent presidents.[10]

For the AG to decide seems capricious.

AG could say, "Thanks for the opera basketball season tickets. Here's a limo."

Yeah or the AG could say, "Thanks for working tirelessly and leading the health/response during a pandemic that killed over a million americans all while being threatened by the public and insulted by the president. For this specific scenario, we'll extend the MOU/contract regarding your security detail so you aren't killed inside your home or while commuting."

Of course it is. Still capricious.

"Thanks for being a good guy, working hard, and putting up with the bullshit, here's a limo and security."

              That what you're saying?

I have no real problem with it, but it should be a matter of policy.

Yeah maybe. I think one-off scenarios are ok. Maybe it is policy in that the AG is authorized to fund protection of high level government employees in the months after their departure? Who knows, I haven't looked up anything.

Fauci is not nearly the only non-government official who's received this kind of security detail.

Probably so. Does it include transportation?

I'm sure it does include transportation and I'm equally sure the policy was generally hand-wavey.

Toughsky shitsky. He's the highest paid Federal pensioner, evuh.

Before that, he was the highest paid employee.

                        He's been adequately compensated.
