    Outfielder.

He's been consistent his entire time at LSU. He covers a lot of ground, he's a smart kid and he can hit with some power. Plus, he's fast and will give you extra bases on balls to the gap, etc.

Shows how wrong I was. They took the pitcher.

The outfielder went #2 to the Nationals.

Which LSU baseball stud should the Pirates grab? The Star Prospect Right Handed Pitcher, or the Stud Outfielder?

BTW, LSU's coach was asked which big leaguer he thought Crews was most like.

He compared Crews to Kirby Puckett. If Crews can play that well in the Bigs, the Nats made a good choice.

Yeah the Nats were going to get either the (potential) next Strasburg (Skenes) or Harper (Crews). Should be fun to watch as they develop, but I'd imagine Skenes might be the better pick. Go buccos!

                Maybe. Pitchers have more injuries.

Crews would have gone in the top five rounds coming out of high school, but he pulled his name from the draft, gambling for a higher spot. And the gamble paid off. Probably over $9M worth.

He spent three years at LSU, so he ought to be close to a degree, if baseball doesn't pan out.

An interesting article on the draft:

You pay a starting pitcher for that one big and meaningful game or playoff run. A true stud starter might win you 4-5 more games per year than an average pitcher, But is critical when you make the playoffs.

A stud outfielder and bat will have a far greater effect on the regular season and could mean 8-10 more wins per year, but their value is slightly lessened when you get to the playoffs.

With where the Pirates are at, they needed the stud outfielder.

                    Third round ...

                    https://www.wwltv.com/article/sports/ncaa/lsu/lsu-tigers-college-world-series-tre-morgan-mlb-draft/289-344015e3-883e-417f-bfd2-4fb17e11d39c

This young man is interesting. He's played outfield and first base for LSU. He is a very athletic first baseman. He needs to improve his hitting just a bit (one of the few players I know that chokes up on the bat), but I think he has a shot at eventually making a MLB roster.

Heck of a play (and tag by the catcher too). I believe this play (if I'm not being too dramatic) saved their season and therefore saved their national championship that they later won.

Choking up on the bat... more players should do it. Go for the hits, the singles... Pete Rose knew this and is why he's the hit king.
