Copper, there's just 4 strings, I mean, how hard can that be?

The 4 strings are fine, I think it is the 4 fingers that will need work.

Strad was given every opportunity to meet the budget, they failed.

good luck. Even with dedicated practice, mastering the violin can take up to several weeks.

Yes, it is not an easy road, but it will be worth it when I come out the other side.

As you said, it looks like about 2 weeks should do it.

On the flip side, you can bring your violin to the golf course to practice whenever there is a slow group in front of you.

Two weeks should do it, but mastering Paganini’s 24 caprices might take a month.

Enjoy, you have made a good choice.

                  Elbows up!

I submitted the order on Saturday, it shipped a few minutes ago from Vancouver, WA.

I have been reading the books and watching YouTube.

Maybe it's my advanced age, but I think mastery could take more than 2 weeks. I'm not even sure if the word mastery can still be used in polite company.

Arguably the most beautiful instrumental sound.

                            It arrived on Friday.

I spent the first 3 hours trying to hold it correctly. I failed.

                            This thing is a monster.

I have 3 books and lots of videos, I'll figure it out.

LOL I agree and I think the same with the violin.

With something like a piano, you can play a recognizable tune even as a beginner. With a violin (or cello), not so easy.

Our Texan poster was remarkably prescient here.

Now at the 3 month mark.

I have been practicing an hour or more most days and made some slow old-man progress. But I am certainly growing some new neurons and building increased motor and sensory skills which was the original purpose.

An unexpected turn is that I finally figured out that I am allergic to the rosin on the bow. Red, itchy eyes, and skin irritation on the left side of the head and neck, always after practicing.

Too much rosin? No, I have been reducing the amount for a few weeks and have it to where it is just about invisible, no rosin residue anywhere. It still irritates.

So I learned a new skill - how to remove rosin by soaking the horsehair in isopropyl alcohol. The new hypoallergenic rosin should arrive this afternoon. And the final roadblock to mastering will dissolve.

I bought a guitar to keep the violin company.

Basic beginner's model, it came yesterday, this is the first time I have ever picked up a guitar
                                        I'll have fun with it

That's cool. You and Mark can play duets. Talentless people like me are annoyed with talented people like you two.
