There will be a whole lot of "walking back" in the next few weeks.

Will there be a whole bunch of people quitting on principle?

    Maybe.

How about Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, Brandel Chamblee? Those guys must be furious, how will they handle this?

    I expect some fun drama.

What’s the drama here? I am vaguely aware of some politically incorrect Arab state involved with LIV.

      Education is extremely important.

          Well the drama is basically...

Some players left to play the saudi-backed league (LIV) and got like $100 million to leave the PGA Tour.

Many others (most of the big names) like Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods, et al... stayed with the PGA Tour out of principle, legacy, etc. Even somewhat unknown players, like Will Zalatoris, turned down $130,000,000 to not go with the LIV tour.

The PGA Tour president implied many times that joining LIV was to ignore the Saudi's involvement with 9/11 and the killings of journalists.

Now........... the tours merge. This ends lots of litigation. The PGA president looks like a buffoon. Players who turned down hundreds of millions of dollars...

The news broke on Twitter, so most pro golfers had no idea this was coming.

Too bad. I wonder how much of a role social pressure played in the PGA loyalists’ decisions. Was it principle or was it the threat of social retribution? My guess is that the decision weighted approximately 100% towards the latter.

            Education is extremely important.

Most seem to believe that just about all the players based the decision on money.

The thinking was that the older players made more money going to the LIV and the younger players made more by staying in the PGA.

Now, the players that got a lot of "up front" money are probably the winners.

There are a lot of big names who insisted that the LIV and all associated with it were evil. They will now have to decide how they will treat the merged enterprise.

The Chairman of the new enterprise is from the LIV Saudi team and the president is from the PGA.

Will the evil guys make the whole thing evil or will the PGA guys' virtue win the day?

I understand the PGA will manage holes 1-8 and 12-18. The Saudis will take care of 9-11.

Don’t know and don’t care if the Saudi regime is politically incorrect. I do however note that I consider that it is morally reprehensible and politically duplicitous.

As for the sport of golf…no opinion other than I have it played once or twice and have no desire to watch it being played at any level.

Somehow, they've managed the unimaginable. They've made watching professional golf even less appealing.

                        I was only joking

So long as the Saudis keep the hell away from curling, I’ll remain indifferent to their whims and fancies in world sports.

Eventually Mr. Biden will eliminate all oil.

This will leave the Saudis with nothing to do.

Now is the time for them to move on to the next thing. Maybe that next thing is sport.

All forms of gambling are illegal in the Saudi Kingdom.

                            A match made in heaven.

The Saudis as arbiter of all sport, uncorrupted by the evil influence of gambling that has claimed most of professional sport.

After spending recent weeks on life support, LIV Golf has lost the funding of its Saudi backers.

LIV plans to tell players and staff by Thursday that Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund will no longer bankroll the circuit after this season, according to people familiar with the matter. The move sounds the death knell for the upstart that sowed chaos in professional golf by plowing billions into the sport and poaching A-list players.

The writing had been on the wall for nearly a month. When PIF recently laid out its vision for the next five years, it made no mention of the league that has divided the golf world since it first teed off in 2022. The people said that while LIV has grown the sport globally, the operation was no longer consistent with the new phase of PIF’s investment strategy.

Even as LIV seeks outside investors to keep it afloat, it will be nearly impossible for it to exist bearing any resemblance to its current form after the Saudis lost billions on the endeavor. They paid exorbitant fees to put on tournaments with lucrative purses featuring elite players such as Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm. LIV is already in talks with outside investors, a person familiar with LIV’s thinking said.
