Watching the introduction made it look cool - ish. I'm not sure that I could find a place for something like this, even at 1/5 the price.

I admit I’m impressed with the concept and visuals. Not sure how I feel about wearing for long periods of time, or the impact to my eyesight, and pride… lol. It seems it has potential, especially since you’re looking “through” instead of “at” although I’d imagine you’re still looking at a live video of “outside the goggles” and not through a lens/pane of glass.

Meh. Nice tech, but you’re even more isolated than with a screen.

Don’t want those either. The real world is much more interesting.

A really good headset could be a real game changer for the way we live. $3,500 isn't too much; people and companies would happily pay even $35,000 if it were that game changer product. Its impact on our life would be bigger than that of a car, so why not pay as much for it than for a car?

I can't say whether this particular product is that game changer, but if it fails, then not due to its price.

You can get a decent VR headset for $300. Sure, it's not as cool as this, but nobody in their right mind is going to want to spend this much.

And a car lasts 10-15 years. How long does cutting-edge tech last before it appears old and dumpy?

                      Probably not.

Remember Jobs was insistent that the iPhone remain a small-screen device.

But I'd guess that Cook has been a more successful CEO than Jobs. He doesn't have the personality, charisma, of Jobs. He's very bean-counter like. IIRC, he was in charge of the "just in time" approach to inventory for Apple which helped get Apple out of the doldrums.

Jobs' approach was always "I know best," and I don't think that Cook is that way - he'll listen.

If it somehow becomes the new way people work from home, or it becomes an office staple... folks will pay this price, especially companies for their employees. But indeed...the product will need to truly leap over some doubt hurdles for it to catch on.

Nah. Of course, if it becomes an essential, it won't stay anywhere near this price, but in order to become one it will need to be cheaper.

I think to make it appealing they'd need to follow the game console pricing model - you make the hardware really cheap, and then you get your money back over time with software

There are some amazing features in this thing.

If someone walks into the room, into your "field of vision" the headset's cameras look at your eyes and project your eyes on the outside of the glass, so the visitor knows you see them.

It can project an all-encompassing movie - edge to edge.

For work stuff, you can have multiple screens with all your apps.

But still, for me, nope, not at that price.

Also, you're tethered to a battery pack with lasts 2 hours.

Ugh, I think I've mentioned this before but in college we had to come up with an invention. Mine was a way to film a movie in (almost) 360 degrees so that a user can put on a headset (or go into a large 360 auditorium) and look in any direction they want to watch the movie and feel "part" of a scene. This kind of reminds me of that.

The Meta Quest 2 (available for $300) is good for watching movies and TV, however it does get a bit uncomfortable after an hour or so. I watched The Expanse on it, and it was really a lot of fun. Some of the games are fun too. If you have a decent PC, Half Life Alyx is an amazing experience.

                                        I was only joking

It can project an all-encompassing movie - edge to edge.

Disney did that when I was a kid. It was a 360 screen that you stood in the middle of the room. Very cutting edge for its time, around 1967.
