I remember my parents ordering a car, and seatbelts were optional.

The Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard № 208 (FMVSS 208) was amended by the NHTSA to require a seat belt/starter interlock system to prevent passenger cars from being started with an unbelted front-seat occupant. This mandate applied to passenger cars built after August 1973, i.e., starting with the 1974 model year.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

They started installing them in 67 I believe, and headrests in 72 or so.

OK, in the interests of patriotic fervour, this is a British effort from 1958.

Had a 71. Same color and vinyl top. IT was a great ride for a long time, if you didn't mind the gas bill. Couldn't tell the difference in ride from 55 to 110. Road grader.

Those cars look cool, but the idea of parking them gives me anxiety.

From Wiki: The Nash Metropolitan is an American automobile that was assembled in England and marketed from 1953 until 1961.

They couldn't assemble it in the U.S. because the workers were laughing too hard. I mean, really. What a dopey-looking car.
