The greatest meme you've never heard of.
-
Here in America, you go to a pet store that has cats, you have a 1 out of 3 chance of hearing someone mention "can haz" or "cheezburgers."
In Australia, you go to a Chinese restaurant, any Chinese restaurant, you have equal odds of hearing "succulent" or "democracy manifest!"
This event happened in 1991. Story goes, the police were tipped off that some criminal mastermind was seen at a suburban Chinese restaurant, so with a preponderance of backup, police entered and arrested the suspect.
Only it wasn't a criminal mastermind. It was Cecil George Edwards: a small-time painter, small-time actor with a penchant for dine & dash shenanigans.
It was funny enough on local television, but it completely blew up in '08 when uploaded onto YouTube.
I'd completely forgotten about it until reminded today.
The one-liner density alone is Airplane! caliber.
