The Coronation

I was in the UK but avoided the entire thing. In Manchester there aren’t that many folk who give a shit. There was a freaking wild party going in as we walked to the pub. Some very strong cigarettes were being smoked. I’m too old for that stuff. The first pub was charging over 6 pounds a pint, the second was charging 99 pence. Guess where we spent the evening.

Oh yeah, they’re arresting people for peacefully protesting. And I really do mean peaceful. For saying ‘Not My King’.
This place is really going downhill. Fucking Tories. One MP said ‘If people don’t like it they should leave’. I already did but he needs to remember who works for whom. Honestly what a bunch.

I'm still not seeing much excitement from normal British people. The BBC keeps telling me different. I saw a couple of houses with bunting.
Meh.

@George-K
LolDid you see the concert from Windsor Castle?
Highlight for me was
Lang Lang playing a Steinway and then accompanying Nicole Scherzinger.
Stunning performance of a Disney Mulan song, Reflection, they absolutely nailed it. Her voice at times reminding me of Barbara Streisand and Celine Dion -
Stress, age, uncomfortable ride to The Abbey, rain starting, sheer irritation that things can never be perfect however much he tries.
Yet he was the only person I saw at the service giving a nod of acknowledgment to the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, the one thing all have to go around as you enter St Peter's. It is a powerful symbol of ultimate service, and the one place I bend the knee. I'm pretty sure the Queens bouquet is on that tombstone now at the King's request.
We all fail, especially when young and in relationships. We are all 'equal', you, Biden, Charles Windsor. We all deserve at the very least, a second chance. Decades after their arranged and failed marriages, Camilla and Charles are together and happy.
Perspectives vary.
I get the feeling we were all led by our Press to side with the prettier younger blonde against the big bad institution.I agree with Charles that his 'Family' needs to be slimmed down. However we must be aware of how he does so much for areas of the Arts that many ignorant politicians want to starve of funds.
And to those that would replace him, I ask, with what?
Would we end up with a popular voted in President Tony Blair, or Jimmy Carr, or President Diane Abbott? It would be another Macboatyface vote.Protestors were never going to be allowed to interfere with such an event, and those arrested were carrying means to secure themselves to objects and stop the procession. Effectively they were caught going armed and with intent to break the law. We've had people superglue themselves to roads in protest and its not an acceptable method of protest.
Neither republican nor royalist, I have to say the BBC did a fine job of covering a most entertaining event. The massed troops on the lawns of The Palace at the end was quite a sight, and well deserved by all of them, having been in the rain for hours.

I'll probably watch the highlights on youtube later. I like tradition and symbolism... that being said, I wonder if King William (when he becomes king in the next 10-20 years) will pull a Pope Francis and purposefully remove some of the pomp around the ceremony. I doubt it, but I could see him bringing some fresh youth to the throne, although he'll probably be almost 60 by then.

I liked the mother daughter head pieces. Kate appeared like a goddess. The little princess must have felt really a princess during the coronation. I wonder if she’s asked her mum before if she could try on her tiaras. That is every little girl’s dream accessory

My daughter and her class all wore tiaras for graduation. being a conservatory, there was quite a variety of dress outside robe and mortarboard. One guy came dressed as Deadpool.

It’s not just ostentatious. Lots of history involved.
Lots of bollocks involved certainly. Not so sure about actual history.

Are you comfortable with recent tightening of the laws regarding protest? The Coronation chickens aside, it seems to me that the law’s didn’t really need to further restrict ‘anti social’ behavior. It seems to me there was already enough ways to keep people in their place.
