Pretty much like I've thought over the last 2 months. We're still being extremely careful, but I've loosened up a few things... Thinking about making a day trip up to my Dad's for an outdoor visit next week. They haven't met Finley, yet. Also going to get together with some friends for the 4th. Each of us is renting our own Pontoon boat and will have a big Lake picnic while maintaining a little physical distance.

It’s not common to contract Covid-19 from a contaminated surface, scientists say.

So we can stop desinfecting and wiping off every goddamn thing twenty times per day.

@LuFins-Dad That sounds like a nice plan. Both for the introduction of Finley, and the boat idea.

          Uncommon, but still possible.

@Jolly it's also possible to be struck by lightning.

What we need here is some 80/20 thinking.

              Fomites transfer droplet borne viruses.

              Period.

              Nothing new about that.

This is also a very virulent virus. The most common transmission is droplets from person to person, but lessening fomite transmission is a good thing.

It’s really important to understand what is most important to pay attention to. I’ll repeat what to pay attention to is the most important decision you can make and I mean that it in the broadest context. It’s your whole life. Lol

Just curious, does some part of your brain think differently about the risk as in from this could save my life to in the abundance of caution. Where did the odds in your brain go from, to?

                        It's simple cost-benefit.

                        • If I do this and it's unnecessary, it means I will have wasted about two minutes spraying the box contents with anti-viral stuff, washing my hands, then going to pick it up from the porch.
                        • If I don't do this and it is necessary, I get infected. Best-case scenario, I'm asymptomatic and risk having ground glass abnormalities in my lungs. Or maybe I just need to go to the hospital, in which case God knows what kind of outrageous medical debt I'll have for the rest of my life, nevermind the permanent complications due to recovery. Or heck, maybe I just die a terrible death alone.

Wasting a couple of minutes and having Klaus call me stupid still seems like the better option.

Everybody has their own level of comfort. I stick the mail in the sunroom for 24-48 hrs before opening it because it's really easy to do, but when we get food we put it straight in the fridge, because otherwise it will go off, and I'll get food poisoning, which wouldn't feel good. I realise the chance of catching Covid from the mail is low, but you can further reduce a small risk with a very minor action. In the unlikely event that something very urgent arrives in the mail, I'll open it immediately.

You don't need to overthink this. (Yes, that meant ironically)

                            I was only joking

                                  I don't use wipes. I use an anti-viral spray.

And I'm not at all "scared." Because I'm taking what I think are pretty good mitigation measures. Extraordinary circumstances would have to occur for me to get infected. I suppose it's still possible, but I'm not willing to wear a hazmat suit to bring my safety level from 99.5% to 100.

Precisely. With MFR's career he have a plethora of disinfecting options we got for free. It seems foolish not to use them. Such an easy thing to do.

If it is so unnecessary why are restaurants required to disinfect table and chairs between customers and use disposable menus? at The Golden Lamb the other day they sprayed disinfectant, waited 60 seconds then wiped everything down. Then they went over everything with UV light.

I didn’t ask about the time , it’s your level of fear. What if you forget to wipe or open a piece of mail without curing it, are you scared?

I don't use wipes. I'm not scared, no. If I go into a store, I use hand sanitiser when I come out, and if I pay with a credit card, I give that a quick wipe down.

This isn't about being scared - it seems quite likely that a lot of us are going to get this eventually, one way or another. I'm mainly trying to avoid being one of the fucking idiots who create a big surge.

                                      I was only joking

@Doctor-Phibes use a no-contact method of payment? My credit cards and watch allow that.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

It's all a bit backward here. as my main bank is a Credit Union. I guess I could program my iPhone to do it, but I feel like I might be swapping one problem for another one.
