Gotta admit, I thought Marci was a chick.
Anyway, back to the topic...... are we talking about transgender or transsexual, anyway?
Sex is biological, no debates there.
Gender is culturally defined. I'm not even sure we need gender btw... and I could instead just be fine with a person's sex (male or female) and, if really needed, their level of traditionally masculine or feminine traits, interests, appearance. For example, in "Marci's" case, presuming he's biologically a male... he could just be "A man with a very feminine personality", without needing to have an entire gender/trans debate.
But if boys are being given chemicals (i.e., "chemical castration") among other approaches to change their identity, aren't we talking about transsexuals not transgender?

The voice in particular passed well. And that one of the hardest hurdles for these folks.

And did it without puberty blockers or surgery, though it is possible that there were procedures later in life…
