A couple thoughts. It is enjoyable to watch the elite hear directly from citizens without a filter. It also shows how the common person can also be very misinformed. Honestly, I know we have some anti-Fauci folks here but from the start I've thought he's done a hero's work trying to update, educate, and validate the science known at the time of each statement he's given and how frustrating it must be to watch a lifetime of scientific expertise get denied because someone thinks "something else is going on".

I'm sorry you're misinformed, so get informed.

Fauci lied. A lot. Enough that he probably needs to be stripped of his Federal pension and even possibly go to jail.

What was unsettling to me was their tactic to try to "inform" this guy. It was obvious to anyone looking at a screen in the past 3 years that scare tactics and "trust the science" wasn't working for a growing number of people who felt there were ulterior motives at play with the vaccines.

My point isn't that those motives existed or not. It's that it was a common concern and they completely failed to address it. They doubled down on scary language and "for your own good." They should've addressed it.

He was more of a government spokesperson with credentials. His job was not to decide the messaging. His job was to convey the messaging, and lend it credibility. I guess he was involved in the conversations that decided that messaging, but no way was he the ultimate authority of it.

@Horace To your point I've been wondering if it has occurred to the House committee investigating him that they're really investigating the Trump administration. At least for most of the period of interest.

Not really. Trump and the policy wonks had to lean heavily on the public health guys and the CDC. I think Fauci has hurt the CDC's credibility badly. I also worry about American response to the next pandemic.

Speaking to the next pandemic response…if you had asked me 2 years ago, I would have predicted 3-6 week shutdowns to be a part of life going forward… Once or twice a decade there would be some new virus that we would proactively shutdown for rather than wait. Now? I’m not so sure. It may come down to who is in office , but I think if you had some virus now that the Government said warranted a shutdown, I think you would see what an insurrection really looked like…

Durbin has COVID, experiencing minor symptoms

Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.), the No. 2 Senate Democrat, said on Sunday that he has tested positive for COVID-19 for a second time in the past year.
“This morning, I tested positive for COVID-19. Thankfully, I am fully vaccinated and boosted and only experiencing minor symptoms,” Durbin said on Twitter.
“I will quarantine consistent with CDC guidelines and follow advice from my doctor while I continue to work remotely,” the Senate majority whip added.
The senator also tested positive for the virus back in July 2022, just a week after President Biden contracted COVID-19.

Another example of someone who I think it pretty much thought of as a science genius
"In ancient Greece, astronomer and mathematician Claudius Ptolemy (A.D. 90–168) set up a model of the solar system in which the sun, stars, and other planets revolved around Earth. Known as the Ptolemaic system, it remained in place for hundreds of years, though it turned out to be flat wrong. "

My point is that we as a society used to promote some stuff that now appears to be incorrect. Always easy to say things in hindsight..

One can debate whethe public manipulation was necessary or if it caused more harm than good, but you can’t really argue that it wasn’t manipulation of the public…

It's also not as bad as the V for Vendetta fanatics made it out to be.

If government is just manipulation, news is just manipulation and media is just manipulation, you might as well grab some tinfoil because that mentality is just as ridiculous as the woke's "everything is power" narrative.

That's not really a fair comparison.

It's not. The cover up of the dangers of tobacco was way more egregious and despicable than anything Fauci did.

Back then, the government wasn't expected to protect you from everything.

It was OK for a company to make profit a priority.

It's hard to believe, but there were some companies who didn't have social justice and the environment as their top priorities.

It's hard to believe, but there was a time when hard-working and industrious companies were able to sell paint chips as crackers.
