Trying to check into a hotel…
-
Holiday Inn Express (not a lot of choices in Belle Vernon, PA…)
It’s the woman’s first day owning the hotel, and it’s the first day for all of the staff…
They can’t figure out how to get into the computer…Not the IHG reservation system, I mean into the desktop past the logon… They have called the prior owner, tried over and over… It has now been 35 minutes. At what point can and should I walk out and go to the cheaper hotel down the street?

FFS, it's for sleeping, right? What do you actually need beyond that?

About 5 minutes later they figured out an empty room from memory and gave us a couple of keys without ever checking us in.
Fire alarm went off at 6AM. Was shut down within 30 seconds…
Went down this morning and the continental breakfast was a mess. No regular coffee (they couldn’t find the container), no milk, no yogurt, no fruit, the pancake machine was blinking “replace bag” and they couldn’t figure out how to do so… They had sausage gravy, but no biscuits. English muffins and bread but no toaster. We had bacon and donuts…
One of the staff from last night was at the desk getting yelled at by an older guy..”I’ve stayed at plenty of Holiday Inn Express and I have never seen blah, blah, blah…” And all of the staff has a shell shocked look on their faces like they just made it out of Kabul…
I don’t feel annoyed anymore, just wryly amused. It’s like yesterday at 5 PM a random group of people were just handed the keys to a hotel and told “here you go, all yours!” I feel a little bad for them and would love to know the backstory.

Be sure to book this same hotel for your next trip to this town so you can get the backstory.

Wow, honestly I feel bad... whether right or wrong, for the owner and staff. I remember one time in college I got a job at the movie theater in town. My first day I showed up and found out I was the only one there (the ONLY one) and customers started showing up. I had no idea how to work any of the machines. Luckily someone showed up after about 15 minutes, I guess it was a coincidence of employees calling out at the same time. Anyway, I think I just let folks go in for free and told them the cashier system was down.
