@Horace The point was not at all subtle, you're just being thick today. Read the post again, you're confusing the subject of the first clause with that of the second. "this bill" /= "his headline-grabbing moves". It's the latter that often follow a pattern, and about which few conservatives complain (though I could name a few, if you'd like).

I see. You were using this thread about an obscure bill to complain about the woke act of DeSantis, and the lack of conservative complaints about it. A subject I don't recall discussing here, but maybe I missed something.

@Horace No actually, I was complaining about a recurring theme of his (and Newsome, too, FWIW). The woke act is but an example that I thought of only when you were missing the point. There are other examples.

Feel free to bring them up for discussion on this board as you please. Or complain about presumed principle-free tribalism, if you prefer.

What is there to complain about? He overstepped by trying to extend it to cover private businesses. That part was smacked by the court appropriately enough, and we moved on. The system worked

I suppose you’re also referring to the whole Disney thing… You see that as punishing Disney, I see it as choosing to not continue to reward Disney…

            @LuFins-Dad

            It’s clearly both.

But it’s moot - he walked it back. Because, yeah, that little township was going to be on the hook for 1B in debt or whatever it was.

But now has cronies on the board to make sure they stay in line politically if they ever want to do more construction.

The social media bill is yet another example.

I’m sure I could think of more.

It's not categorically bad for a politician to adjust legal, above-the-board sweetheart deals with industry, to be more in line with the will of the voters. If anything, sweetheart deals are categorically bad. At least I can imagine a case being made for that.

It's not that much of a 'sweetheart' deal, any huge complex get them - MCO, for example. I believe there are close to 2k of these in the state, of varying sizes and scopes.

But that's not even the point - as I'm sure would have been painfully clear to you when your dad took away your Nintendo. Punishment is a question of motive. In some families you can take the keys to the Porsche away from the teenager and make him take his grandma's civic to the party, and that will be an effective punishment.

Motives that are in line with the will of the voters are not categorically bad, even if they lead to a politician adjusting discretionary relationships with a private company in an above-board way.

As a thought experiment, do you think an adjustment to government relations with a private company in CA which began openly advocating against abortion, or against gay marriage, would be wrong, in the same way you believe DeSantis was wrong?

We don’t even need a hypothetical. Your former Governor wants to arrest doctors that spread “disinformation” on covid.

As i said in the first post, Newsome, like DeSantis, likes to use state power to stop speech he doesn’t like.

You mean, you're uncomfortable answering the apples to apples hypothetical, because it would lay bare your bias.

Since you're uncomfortable, I'll oblige. In my hypothetical, you would shrug, think that the company played a stupid game and won a stupid prize, and never think about it again.

Your former Governor wants to arrest doctors that spread “disinformation” on covid.

I understand this feels like an apples to apples comparison to you, but the fact you're unwilling to respond to the direct comparison I presented, says it all.
