Maryland Music Educators Association… Demonstrating the classrooms and practice rooms of (add in dramatic sci-fi saw music) The Future
Yamaha U1 Silent Series connected to Finale, Auralia, a DAW, and a few other Apps. Pretty common stuff with a keyboard controller, but mind blowing when coming from an Acoustic.
I’ve also connected a sound system to the piano. I have individually tuned each and every note to match each other between the digital sample and the tonal character. The volume is set low enough to just be a boost to the acoustic instrument. With the flip of a switch, it goes from sounding like a U1 to a CFX. During testing, the Steinway tech came over and was complaining. He thought it was a CFX and it compared well against the D he was tuning…
Then I took him next door and showed him the Bösendorfer 214VC next door… It will be a fun weekend.

There is a bunch of cool technology out there these days. The best part of my job has been working with educators and music makers to discover different uses for the technology…
The Silent Pianos have been one of my favorite. I used to find them to be kind of a waste… There are two primary attributes to an instrument for most people. Touch and Tone. Upright piano actions suck. Sorry, don’t blame me, it’s gravity’s fault. But at least they have a good sound… Unless you’re using headphones…. Then you have a digital piano that has a worse action than a Roland, Clavinova’ or Kawai Digital. Just get a digital…
Then I started using the digital features on a Silent without using the Silent Mode. Ey-Opening… Still prefer a grand action, and a Silent or Disklavier grand is the perfect blend, but even the silent upright is a powerful tool….

Awesome! I think we may get a piano near the end of the year and the U1 silent is on my list. Would need to try it of course.

@LuFins-Dad I do come back about once a quarter for work. Not a bad idea, plus inevitable beers with you afterwards!
