This HBO series is a sequel to "The Young Pope" which starred Jude Law as "Lenny," a young American cardinal who becomes Pope. At the end of the series, Lenny (Pope Pius XIII) is in a coma after having a heart attack.
The series picks up 13 months later, with the cardinals of The Vatican electing a new pope, though Pius is still alive, but comatose. This season features the wonderful, iconic and totally quirky John Malkovich who becomes the successor to Pius XIII.
I've only watched a couple of episodes, but I am struck at how beautifully this series is filmed. Every scene is carefully thought out, wonderfully framed and, for a lack of a better word, a work of art. Even if you don't like the show, its premise, or story, just enjoying the visual joy makes it worth at least a glance.
Just watch this trailer...

So stylish, so much fun.

I'd like to start with The Young Pope. Is it on Netflix or Amazon?

@George-K that does look great. Reminds me of Mr Robot, another series I watched and recently finished. The plot is unique and the storylines are abstract at times, but hot damn if it wasn’t the best directed and/or had the best cinematography of any TV show I’ve ever seen. Like you said, many moments in the show are pure art at its finest.

Heads up, tho...
THere's a fair amount of nudity in it.
And by "fair," I mean "a lot," especially in "The New Pope."

If John Malkovich gets his old fellah out, I'm going to pass.

MS and I really like The Young Pope -- some very sophisticate inside Catholic theology and politics.
The New Pope kinda limped.
Cardinal Voiello was perfectly written and perfectly acted.
And both, as George notes, were sumptuously filmed.

Both - but not Malkovich, thank goodness.
Well, at least not from the front.
