Mulch mushrooms

Some people with a trailer full of mulch knocked on my door seven days ago and offered to pour mulch over my plant beds. I said yes and it looks great. Now a week later I have mulch mushrooms. Remarkable how fast those things grow. I wonder if the fungus is part of the mulch making process.

Pretty common sight on mulch, those are white small-capped mushrooms, which is basically just natural fungus in the mulch. It's mostly just aesthetics. so if you don't like the look you can remove the top part to reduce spores/visibility but if you leave the stems the fungus can continue to do its job of decaying organic material in the mulch.
Alternatively, and my preferred method, I like to decapitate the biggest mushroom and post it on my door with an old nail with a note that says "tell your friends, don't mess with my yard, I'm not a fun guy"

What are you, a mycologist?
It is a mycoaggression to label something a mushroom just because it looks like a mushroom.

That must go well with the "hate has no home here" sign in your yard.

There's a book I redd years ago and have been unable to recall the title (I spent an unconscionable amount of time searching it for Mik some time ago with no luck). I thought it would be an interesting read for you, and have been scratching around looking for it again, with no luck.
Then -- oh, irony -- I got the title of the book from your very self just now in this thread: It's Mycelium Running. It's overproduced, might be more book than you're interested in, but it makes for an interesting reading experience.
