Awkward indeed.
Though I've never run into 'purposiveness' outside of a philosophy discussion and generally wouldn't expect a lawyer or any normal person to have run into it at all. But maybe they do in some area of the law I've never been exposed to.

I would have stumbled on Article 5 also. Though Article 2 I would have handled well enough.
But I didn't go to law school.

Look, he can be an insufferable asshole and he thinks a lot of himself, but that grits and grin personality hides a pretty good mind.

Purposive theory is a version of interpreting the law that suggests that common law courts interpret the legislation more on the purpose of the legislation over the exact letter of the law.
