Like it's Veterans Day or something.

President Joe Biden on Friday will commemorate the January 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol – the day he’s called “one of the darkest periods of our nation’s history” – as he seeks to elevate the law enforcement and election officials that held firm against the most serious effort to prevent the peaceful transfer of power in US history.

I'm fine overdramatizing riots in the capitol if it creates more of a stigma around doing it. (I didn't think we needed much stigma around this).

And yes - I think we should create more stigma around rioting in courthouses as well.

A bit dramatic, but take politics out and you had an event only 2 years ago where you had a mob that literally broke into the Capitol to try and stop a presidential election. I have no problem reminding folks of how dark that day was for our democracy. And I didn't want Biden to win.

A few doofusses taking selfies just isn't that big of a deal.

I understand that it must be exploited.

If you don't leave bullet holes it doesn't count.

Since these guys shot five congressmen - while Congress was in session - I fail to see why Biden doesn't commemorate them.

By a national hero who defended us from an unarmed woman.

The Capitol police arrested saved us from her mother this morning while she attended a memorial service for her murdered daughter.

And let's not forget the 5 Capitol police officers who were killed that day by fire extinguisher wielding doofesses.

                          Hypothesis example:

Someone for whatever reason (maybe drunk, maybe crazy, maybe sane but just likes your house), and comes pounding on your door. They start trying to break it down. Do you welcome them into your house, or do you try and defend yourself?

@Jolly Yes and no. Of course it is a government building and therefore it is paid by the public, but common sense says that does not mean anybody can just walk in and go anywhere they want just because.

The white house is public building. Should anybody just be able to go in there and walk around?

                                      Yes, I have.

It wasn't that long ago that you could just walk up to the whitehouse, and you could enter on weekends. Then there was a line if you wanted to get a tour.

The Capitol was wide open on weekends. You could park in the first parking space at the bottom of the stairs if you got there early. Then you could walk inside and walk around all you want. There was no security screening at all.

When I become president we will re-open these buildings on day one.
