@Jolly, as I've said in the past, the last time our broke, I asked the guy which is the best to buy.

      He said, "Your mother's."

I have a 17 year old Kitchen Aid. We looked around when it broke down and everything I saw was junk. So we fixed it. And will again if it’s not too pricey.

I have always been one to eschew 'features' like water, ice, french doors, etc. More points of failure. And I sure as hell don't want my fridge hooked up to the internet.

The Cheddarshack had a SubZero. It was there when we bought the house in 1996, and was still working when we sold it 20 years later. The only problem is that we had to replace the gasket.

Our house had a SubZero that lasted for 15 years.

In the condo, where I've been since 2009, I've had 3 GE profile refrigerators. One failed completely (within 2 months of moving in) the other two were replace (under warranty) because (gasp!) the ice maker failed and they couldn't get parts.

We got an LG earlier this year. French door, good capacity (especially in the freezer!), water/ice on outside and a slim icemaker in the door. So far so good, seems well built. Guess we'll see!

Oh it's also a "smart fridge" (which I rolled my eyes at) because that just means it figures out when the fridge is used and not used and adjusts its defrost cycles and other things accordingly. Similar to our LG washer/dryer, I can look up metrics on it on my phone, such as usage, filter life, recommended maintenance. I know some smart fridges out there you can talk to and add things to a grocery list, that seems cool but I guess I prefer the pad of paper for a grocery list still.

In the video, he comments on SubZero. Better made, but more cost.
