Aeolian is also known as natural minor. It does not have a flat 6th, unless considered to be a relation to major, which would explain the flatted 6th, but then the lowered 3rd would also need to be acknowledged, as well as the raised 7th.
The G pedal point, or ostinato, does not establish G-Dorian, although emphasizing B-flat would help reinforce the Dorian. The lower tetrachords of Dorian and Aeolian are identical, 5th relation of course, which allows transient modulation between the two tonal areas without establishing a new key through traditional chord progressions.
Ax, help me out here, bud. I'm not near a keyboard.That being said, I really enjoy his videos. Rick has done a lot in opening up all styles of music to everyone. A bit heavy on the "buy my stuff" but I guess that's how he makes his living, YouTube and stuff. I would love to have his studio, but wouldn't we all.
