Tampa Police Chief Story

I suspect most of you have read that the Tampa Police Chief was asked to resign for showing her badge during a traffic stop. Total waste of time. If one asked a 100 officers what they would do in this situation - a 100 of them would have done the same thing - that is identify themselves as a fellow police officer and gently ask if they could be let off.
She will receive her pension - which is fine - but where is the freaking scandal here?

It’s true 100 out of 100 would do it, but that’s a problem.
I’m not a fan of cops flagrantly breaking the law because they think the rules don’t apply to them.
In NYC there was a proposal to put traffic cameras near school zones. The cops fought it hard because there was no way to exempt themselves.

There is no scandal, and yes, they all do it. It's called professional courtesy. I have no real issue with it unless it was a danger to themselves or others. Jon paints a picture of cops running around crazy and drunk and putting the pubic at risk. That's simply not the case.

Yeah, but it is how the world works. When I was on one of the boards of the Chicago Symphony, I mentioned it when getting tickets for the orchestra.
If a nurse or doc enters an ER for a medical emergency, they mention they're a nurse or doc.
And yes, the law applies - but she didn't try and either bribe or threaten the officer. She left the decision to him - and he made the right call. He might have done that for us as well - even more likely if we were a celebrity, relative or a physically attractive person.

She didn't even do it right. She's supposed to have a $20 bill folded under her badge as she hands it to the cop.
