It’s in Texas. Maybe Horace can scout it out for us.

I’ve visited some of the biggest mega churches in the US. Life Church in Cincinnati, Crossroads in Kentucky, McLean Bible in VA, North Point in Atlanta.

I’ve never seen nor would I expect to see flying drummers…

Having known quite a few members of these churches, I will ask them if they have ever seen flying drummers. My guess is that they will say no and that they would likely leave the church if they did.

I felt much the same way about acoustic guitars.

                It's a slippery slope.

                I was only joking

Y'all, it's all about butts in the seats. I have a good friend who pastors a 1000 member church with the most millenials in the area. He has two services on Sunday morning. The early service is more country-traditional...standard hymns, acoustic instruments, sanctuary lights on. The second service brings out the modern music, with the light show stuff in a darkened sanctuary. The two sermons are pretty similar, but his illustrations may change a bit. The second service attendance is much larger.

I understand what he's doing...From his viewpoint, he's getting people in the door and butts in the seats. And I understand changing with the times.

But at what point do we lose the community and worship of church and become just another entertainment venue?

Secondly, how big is too big? Seems to me, when churches exceed that 500 member mark, they start to go a bit wonky. People don't know other people and the church becomes more business-like.

The megachurches? I think they defeat much of the purpose of gathering in His name.

Presumably there are smaller churches in the vicinities of the mega churches. Why do church goers choose to go to a mega church?

The simple answer is they like it. There's probably lots they can do with scale that other churches would struggle with.

We will probably be looking at smaller churches in the area. My wife is open to the idea, and even if I'm not a believer, I would like to explore the community aspect of it. My respect for Christianity has grown, as I've witnessed the alternative in the human psyche.

                        Education is extremely important.
