Republicans are missing their chance

The GOP and Trump are completely missing a golden opportunity with everything going on. They need to be righteously angry about all of these cases where police are killing unarmed black men. They need to be crying from the rooftop about how it is a failure of the municipal police departments and the city governments in controlling and training their police properly. They need to point out the stats. The 5 worse cities for police violence in the US are NY, Phoenix, LA, Jacksonville, and Chicago. https://www.jaildeathandinjurylaw.com/blog/13/five-worst-us-cities-for-police-brutality/
NY has been run by DeBlasio and Bloomberg, two liberal Democrats, for almost 20 years.
Phoenix has been run by Phil Gordon, Greg Stanton, and Kate Gallego, three liberal Democrats, for nearly 20 years.
LA has been run by James Hahn, Antonio Villaraigosa, and Eric Garcetti, three liberal democrats, for nearly 20 years.
Chicago hasn't had a Republican mayor since 1931...
Jacksonville is the only city on the list that has had both Republican and Democrat Mayors, BUT they are the only city on the list with a Sheriff instead of a chief. It's an elected position and not an Executive Appointment.
As you work your way down the list, it's the same pattern. Democrats in office - more police violence.

You see all of the graffiti saying fvck Trump... What does he have to do with a police killing in Minneapolis? That is on that city’s administration.
-
Starting with Bush(43) and continued with Obama(44), the DOJ built up a mechanism to investigate police departments for civil rights abuses, sue those police departments, and get the departments into consent decrees to push through reforms.
Trump and his then Attorney General Jeff Session dismantled all that and left the DOJ now without an organization/mechanism to perform oversight over troubled police departments.
The Obama administration also put in place certain rules that limited the transfer of certain military surplus equipment to civilian police departments. Trump undid that one too, making worse the problem of the militarization of civilian police forces.
So it not without justification that the #BLM and anti police brutality protesters place some blame on Trump.
The June 1 Lafayette Square episode where the Trump administration forcefully removed peaceful protesters for a Trump photo-op was also a total dick move that deserve many variants of “[expletive] Trump” graffiti.

I agree with you except with your characterization of Bloomberg It’s true he has been all over the map, but at the end of the day ran and was elected on a continuation of Giuliani’s platform with regard to policing, and he later tripled down on stop and frisk.
The core of DeBlasio’s platform was specifically backing away from it.
But these are quibbles. I agree he’s missing an opportunity here to thread the needle. He could express solidarity with blacks (at least as regards police brutality), plea for law and order, use the federalist shield to deflect criticism for not intervening contra rioting (all while saying he ‘stands ready’ to help any governor who requests it) and meanwhile blame Democratic machines and unions for the state of big city police forces.

The stairs I can understand. A lot of people in the mid 70 years old will have somewhat of a loss of balance, and will want to take their time on stairs, ramps, etc. I dont think this video shows anything.
The drinking water one - hmmmm, maybe he has some sort of shaking or something. Again, I dont think it is a big deal from what I see.
-
@Horace said in Republicans are missing their chance:
Yeah the inability to drink water from a glass is reminiscent of the shakes one gets from too much alcohol for too long. Not that that's what it is in this case, but it could be shakes for some other reason.
It’s just fun to poke at him I suppose but there is literally zero healthcare info in that video. It’s a joke not news.

Bad back. That's my guess.
He walks slowly, as if he's much heavier than he actually is.I know that when my back is killing me, my hands shake. Don't know why.
But, he's never said he has any sort of back or nerve pain. Either did Kennedy. But, he's no Kennedy, of course.
And when my back is killing me, don't come near me as I'll bite your head off. Trump bites people's heads off. Wounded tiger syndrome.
-
I've straightup collapsed due to my back a couple times. Hell I was 20 or so the first time it happened. Almost seized up completely again today, but I've been trying to get my rear muscles in shape and I think that saved me.
Me being a highly respected and board-certified nothing at all, I'd consider this worrying only if it persists.
But he's still an orange douche canoe.

Aqua, you are too young to have back problems.
Do what you can to make it as good as you can, because I guarantee it will come back to haunt you in a couple or three decades.Yeah, the first time I had serious issue was in high school football. I got nailed, something in my back crunched. I told the coach, and being the typical softy WWII vet, he said, "if you can't scrimmage, then start running laps." Point is, when I was young, I healed fast. Now I heal like a glacier during a cold year (I just made the glacier stuff up, mighty clever huh).
