We’re rehabbing a half bath right now. Karla’s painting the vanity raisin, and I was sent to buy new hinges and hardware since the hinges were painted over and the old handles were a little rusty. I was instructed to get something “distressed looking”. Sitting at Lowes looking at about $60 dollars worth of hardware, it occurred to me that the old stuff was perfect for what she wanted, it just needed a little TLC… So I picked up a wire brush and a bottle of Coke…

I’ll let you know how it looks in the morning….

My grandfather used to tell me that Coke would take the rust off of old nuts and bolts.

It never seemed to work for me. I think he was just trying to discourage drinking Coke.

It’s already removed the white paint…

I know Coke is good for cleaning camping food pots and utensils when you dont have a good water source or soap. Fill your pot with coke and put the utensils inside and they will all come out clean.

But less smelly, and perhaps cheaper?

What, the stripping of the paint or drinking the leftovers?
