Apparently COVID and its after effects have dampened enthusiasm for posting pictures of one's lunch or whatever else people use Facebook for. Their stock is down 25% this morning, after a bad earnings report last night.

Google took a crap yesterday too, after a bad earnings.

Next up, Apple, this afternoon. The stock for winners, by winners. Watch and learn.

    Education is extremely important.

Facebook has been dead for a good 5 years, they just don't know it. They even changed their name so they can run a 90s-looking SimCity virtual world. Google and Apple will survive for a long time, not Facebook.

That's what I've always thought. I've always found it an absurdity that a social website that could be replaced so easily or even abandoned so easily could be one of the biggest companies in america.

        Education is extremely important.

Their VR Goggles are pretty nice - easily the best value for money available.

I actually would enjoy the VR Goggles, I think. Don't have much time now with toddlers but maybe in a few years. I feel like I would just use them to "fly" around the world.

I suspect the average age of FB user is around 50 or more. The kids have gone elsewhere, and the FB users will eventually die or bail.

I've had a blast - they're not quite there yet from a technical standpoint, but my guess is the next generation will be awesome.

Well yeah, the model has clearly changed. I noticed a big influx of school-friends in their mid-50's joining around the beginning of Covid, but the level of actually interesting communication is very low. It seems to be photos of dinner, far-out left wing shit, and far-out right wing shit, in that order.

Neither of my two kids even has a FB account.

The market is pricing in a bad report for Apple. Down 5% from yesterday's high. Hopefully that cushions whatever drop it may have tomorrow, should the report be pessimistic.

Apple had a decent enough report this afternoon and avoided the Sword of Demonrats Damocles for yet another quarter.

Well, with Amazon and Facebook there were massive increases over the pandemic period. Now, I know sweet bugger all about the stock market, but it seems like a re-adjustment isn't exactly surprising.

Obviously, things are going south too.

FB seems important to small towns & rural folk in my province. It’s a news line for everything. I feel a bit left out not having an account, Maybe it’s important because their newspapers have died, church happens only twice a week, radio targets cities, and winter can isolate people from each other? Even town councils, RCMP & local schools post on FB. IG seems slow to take hold here, but it’s growing. Twitter too. I remember a few yrs back an active shooter situation in a town where I stay often .. the town’s public FB page lit up like an old time party-line as people sheltered in place giving updates, calling on their friends & family worried of their safety. Maybe FB is like this in rural America too?

Indeed. Our small-ish suburb (about 9500 people) has a pretty active FB page. I'll see stuff there long before it's apparent on newsfeeds, etc.

"Why are there helicopters hovering over town?"

                                        "Aqua's sister paid a visit."

                                        That kind of stuff.
