Funny, I first learned with the shift on the left. It was a golf course maintenance vehicle. The only time I've driven one in a car was at my brother in law's house where he had an old truck (he called it the chicken truck because he used it to haul chickens) which he needed me to move a few miles down the road.

My first car was a Pontiac sunbird manual transmission. Haven’t driven a manual since.

In the early 90s while on an expat gig in London I was given a corporate car to use which had the stick on my left.

It took some getting used to.

I was thinking the same thing -- mine was a Ford Escort.

Funny, having the stick on the right never really bothered me.

              I was only joking

Fortunately, they do not change the pedals. What I dont like is sometimes the window wiper and the turn signal controls are switched. Then I always either turn the signal on when I want to clean the windows on, or clean the window when I want to signal!! LOL

But did you have a black 3 on the tree 1962 Rambler American sedan Armstrong steering, aluminium body with a straight 6 and steel dashboard with front bench?
