I can’t wait until this latest work trend is over. All it’s doing is reinforcing the racial divisions that will only be solved once folks start living in a colorblind society. On TV, I saw a nine-year-old black girl marching with her fist up, looking full of rage. It’s a shame she already has this preconceived narrative in her head now.

I think things have flip-flopped. I grew up in a segregated South. Yes, many white Southerners felt they were superior to the colored people of the time. Of course, there were exceptions. Some urban centers like New Orleans, and some places you wouldn't think...Little rural communities where whites and blacks lived and worked together...No, you wouldn't hear of an interracial marriage, but there ain't much segregation in a feed store or a hay field.

What has happened over the past several decades, is that the black community no longer buys into the Dr. King's idea of a colorblind society. Perhaps they have been told they are victims so long, that they have been oppressed so long, it has become an essential "fact" of their culture. Now, many take offense at the slightest innocuous remark or casual conversation, not some overt or covert act of true racism.

No, now I see more racism in the black community than I do the white. And this constant excuse of victimization underpinning a glaring under-performance in society has worn quite thin. They have created a culture where they cannot win, where in many cases black society is much worse off than when Dr. King addressed the crown in Washington.

The new black racism is just as much about power...Who has it and who wields it...as anything ever connected with white racism.

Black skin confers enormous social credibility, as long as the rest of one's presentation speaks to a willingness to join the mainstream and be a boring middle class wage earner like everybody else.

          Education is extremely important.

@Horace said in Better to die standing:

In the media world, it confers something between pity and shock, is credibility in that range?

In the real world I think it is more like just do your job and social credibility will take care of itself.

I think it might be time to recall the thing about bleeding and leading. The MSM is reveling right now; how reflective of the reals is what they are trumpeting all over the place? Are we being big dummies by rushing hither and yon over every latest headline?

Are we confusing the map with the territory?
