Now, you have many life altering changes to go through.

    1. Gig 'em, Aggies! or Hook 'em, Horns!. Or maybe somebody else...Everybody in Texas has a college team they root for.
    2. Guns. Well...You did move to Texas.
    3. Barbeque joint. Everybody has a favorite.
    4. Boots. Not everybody wears them, but a lot of folks do. If fitted well, very comfortable.
    5. Wranglers or Levis? Cowboys wear Wranglers.
    6. Pickup. Well...You did move to Texas. Pickup brand arguments can approach the intensity of favorite college team, gun, or barbeque joint.
    7. Texas Two-step. Worth learning.

    Have fun.

Problem is that I won't be able to watch them on TV, since I won't have a TV service.

    1. Guns. Well...You did move to Texas.

    Will be getting hand guns.

    1. Barbeque joint. Everybody has a favorite.

Yep. I haven't tried Buc-ee's yet, but there is one within a few minutes of our new place. We're just as excited about Houston's chinatown and its restaurants. About 15 minutes away, and the selection and quality is great. Probably as good as San Francisco's chinatown, but actually accessible.

    1. Boots. Not everybody wears them, but a lot of folks do. If fitted well, very comfortable.

Then I'd have to wear something other than shorts.

I do want a bigger car. I was thinking SUV. We rented a Ford Explorer on our trip down here in June and I really liked it.

    1. Texas Two-step. Worth learning.

We went out for Karaoke and dancing last weekend with a bunch of her Chinese friends. Not really Texas culture stuff, but the Chinatown crowd has been very welcoming.

    Have fun.

    We will! Thank you.

If you feel like it, care to share some photos?

Sure, eventually, after the neighborhood isn't such a mess from the construction, the fountain is put in, the water is clear and blue, and we have all our nice furniture in.

How're y'all likin' Texas so far?

It's been a roller coaster with all the stress from not knowing what's going to happen. Then the disappointment, that I was unprepared for, over what I came to know, after it was too late, as someone's dream house, now forever lost. But Texas itself has been great. The people, the gas prices, the weather, have all been great so far. The Airbnb has been a pleasant surprise too. After the closing was delayed by a day, we had to reschedule for one extra day here, so the host changed our reservation from 29 days to 30. That triggered a TX tax law that exempted our stay from the hotel tax of 6% per day. So our total bill went down by $150 because the tax exemption applies to all 30 days. Got an extra day and received a refund on our credit card.

Also our agent offered $500 to compensate us for our trouble this weekend, but he made it clear that it was too late for it to come from his agency so it would be coming out of his pocket. So I haven't taken him up on it. I have my pride. Texas pride.

      Education is extremely important.

BTW, Rice has a pretty durn good music school. Watch for concerts or events. Or take a class, if so moved.

When I moved to Texas, 45 years ago (I have since left), I was told that the best Barbeque came from the temporary roadside stands, where the owner/operator had the smoker on a trailer attached to the pickup.

To be honest, I can't remember if I actually dined at one of these establishments. I probably did.

At that time the best place for Barbeque in North Dallas, that had a roof, was a place called Dickie's. I just looked, it appears that they are all over the state now, including Houston.

Another big "congratulations" from me, Horace! Looks like overall, things are working out so well for you, and you seem to have some good luck following you around, at least for now.
Oh, congrats as well to your wife. Everything else aside, the stress you have both gone through is huge, such a relief that it's almost all over and done with.
At least I hope that's how you are both feeling!

Hie thee to Chappell Hill Sausage Company during restaurant hours. Get the meat and beans bowl and some sausage. Do not dress up. You'll thank me.

Also, do not follow all the hype about BBQ joints. People wait in line for hours at Franklin's when there are a million mom and pop Q's that are about as good. Avoid the chains. Do some exploring on your own.

Luby's cafeterias have outstanding chicken fried steak, the Texas state dish I'd imagine.

Taco Cabana is a fun place to go for breakfast tacos and burritos. First place I ever saw with garage doors that open up.

Thanks everybody for the well wishes and recommendations. I think I lucked out with the internet service. It has been horrible broadband for years in this area, but in the past few months a company called Fidium has introduced fiber. The Fidium guy came over today and installed it. 930 megabits download and over half that upload, for 70 a month. Got a router centrally placed and a free extender for my office.

So when are you hosting the get together?

If anybody is in the Houston area and they can play piano well, I suspect our acoustics here in the living room are fantastic. Even if the piano is less so.

                                          Education is extremely important.
