That's what Mrs. George said. Why not just "Queen," because Charles divorced Diana?

@George-K they are already referring to her with that title. If memory serves it was negotiated when they married.

I am reeeaally gonna louse this up, but it has something to do with the King's first wife is the one and only Queen because in times past, her virginity was assured (so a bastard from somebody else conceived before the royal wedding didn't wind up in the succession). That is believed not to be applicable to any other woman the King takes up with. So no other woman can be Queen.

              Or something.

She has been a constant for many people, not just in the UK. I have nothing but great admiration and respect for her. I'm actually kind of teary.

                RIP Elizabeth II.

Liz Truss just addressed the nation in front of 10 Downing and referred to King Charles III.

It’s official, His Majesty will rule as King Charles III.

Note Charles will no longer be referred as His Royal Highness but rather His Majesty. HRH is for Princes and Princesses.

When people say "the Queen" people know it's referring to Elizabeth II. When they show an image of a little white haired lady in a bright colored hat with a purse dangling on her arm, people know it's the Queen.

Heck, even my children recognize her and they have nothing to do with Britain. In fact, it was my daughter who texted me this morning and ask "Did you guys hear about the Queen?"
