In my day I have bumbled into some bad olive oils. This isn't helped by my ignunt taste buds. Mostly I wait til I get the EVOO home from the store and broken open to learn what it's like.
My latest is a giant bottle of Costco brand (I think; too lazy to go look) that is so awful it ruins whatever I add it to. It is relegated to the back (waay back) shelf for emergency use if I run out of the better stuff.
What do you use? Can you recco one that is easy to find and won't break the bank? I don't need the exquisite of the world -- just something decent and workmanlike.
Many thanks.

I use Kirkland EVO all the time. Just bought a new jug of it yesterday. Used it for years Decades even.
What did you not like about it?

My local grocery stores beat Costco’s EVO prices quite frequently when they run discounts. I just wait for the right discounts to come along and I stock up. Sometimes they discount the same brands as sold in Costco (not “Kirkland” brand, of course, but their prices do beat even “Kirkland” brand EVO), sometimes not. But I can rarely taste the difference of EVO between brands, so I am pretty agnostic when it comes to EVO brand. :man-shrugging:

We use Kirkland too. We don't use it very often, though, and I'm not sure I could tell the difference between one brand or another.

@Catseye3 , recently I have been using the “Botticelli” brand, and before that the “California Olive Ranch” brand, of EVO. They taste fine to me, feel free to give either a shot if you are looking for different brands to try.

I don't know anything about Botticelli, but California Olive Ranch is a good oil reasonably priced.

Same here. For cooking, I can't tell the difference. But, for dipping, I enjoy the flavored ones.

I went and looked. The label says Kirkland Extra Virgin Olive Oil Tuscany. Then underneath, October-November-December 2020 Harvest.
Just the flavor. I wonder if it wasn't rancid or something.
I tried Bertolli, and liked it much better. Milder, not so interfering with what it was cooking.

That's too old. Did you get it on Amazon?

Not sure how they would have a Kirkland product. They shouldn't. I suspect someone got hold of old stock somewhere.

Was that quite a while ago? The one I just bought yesterday is best before November 2023. Did you see the harvest date or the best by date?

Best by July 11, 2022. So yeah, old.

Thanks! My normal brekkie is either muesli with fruit (blackberries, blueberries, peaches or bananas), or avocado toast, occasionally this thing I make with poached eggs, butter and torn up sourdough toast. All three yum. But I can always use suggestions for healthy breakfast!
