You're probably right, but think it has a few more benefits. I think for some, it might help them with maturity and focus in life. For some, I think it could help with vocational training. For some, it might be a chosen career.

Except for those in specialized training, I'd like to see a very short active-duty segment...Say 12-13 months, followed by a National Guard or Reserve duty of 1-2 years. Both men and women should be go, in a universal draft.

I'd also like the services to bring back and expand certain MOS. Train people how to cook, how to work on diesel engines, how to help refuel and service aircraft, how to drive trucks, how to operate construction equipment, etc. If you want advanced skills...nursing, laboratory, computers, air traffic control, etc., you can voluntarily sign up for an enlistment within 30 days of the end of basic training, provided your ASVAB scores are high enough.

For those without high school diplomas or GED's, ASVAB scores will determine your MOS choices, but after landing in your new assignment, the draftee will attend mandatory GED courses, with a goal of obtaining a GED before separation from the service. Instruction time and study time will be mandatory for such soldiers and sailors.

I'm also not against a national service corps. Put draftees out there helping to build infrastructure or helping to demolish blighted urban areas and dovetail it in with their military obligations.

People are going to fight tooth and nail against being told to wear a mask as an attack on their liberty, but they'll happily don fatigues and accept being forced to join the military?

        I was only joking

          Why not?

Year for year reimbursement for each year served, up to a total of four years. Amount to be the average state university tuition in your state of residence. Fees will be covered under a guaranteed loan from the U.S. government. If you go into certain vocations (example, teaching), university fees will be paid on a year for year worked basis.

Basic college classes (200 level and under)will be offered to all enlisted personnel at no cost while on active duty or while in the NG or reserves.

Who wants to join an institution that that majority of republicans and democrats thought was doing the wrong thing for the past 20 years (Afghanistan, Iraq)?

People still respect the uniform, but do many respect the work, outcomes and impact?

Finally, something I can agree with from you. You dimwitted ostrich. Been saying it for a very long time. Each and every 18 year old should serve minimum 2 years in the armed force of their choice. But there is no getting out of it. A law. An enforced law. I know it doesn't go well here in this forum full of college grads with daddy's spoon still stuck up their butt, but I believe our country would be so much better off by forcing high school grads to give back to this country and learn some respect and gratitude before daddy sends them off to become cynical smart people with no common sense.
