For years decades I used a French Press then switched to drip just because we had one and the French Press Carafe had broken. The coffee was fine and overtime I grew to enjoy setting it up to brew in the morning before I woke up…

Well, the coffee pot in the machine just shattered. I can replace the pot, but am considering whether I want to switch it up…

Maybe get a a more expensive drip machine? This was just an old Mr. Coffee, do the upper end models brew a better coffee or are they just about features?

I get the K-Cup convenience, and they have improved, but there’s still a bit of aftertaste to me…

Pour over? Chemex? Percolator? Go back to a French press? Thoughts?

    The Brad

Don't look at me. I use a Mr. Coffee similar to yours. I do have a Keurig for single use, but you'll have to experiment to find a coffee you like.

If I remember correctly I broke the Mr. Coffee pot about 15 years ago and the replacement Mr. Coffee pot at Target cost just about the same as a whole new Mr. Coffee machine. So I bought a whole new Mr. Coffee for about $20.

Now I use the Keurig K-Supreme Coffee Maker, Single Serve K-Cup Pod Coffee Brewer, With MultiStream Technology.

The MultiStream Technology pokes 5 holes in the k-cup, not just one. Supposedly better, faster, hotter, I like it ok and I believe it is supposed to stay cleaner longer between de-scalings.

Same here. Wife doesn't drink coffee and I use it as a way to jolt me back to life in the mornings (or afternoons) because...toddlers, so I'm not picky. I usually use a Breakfast Blend from costco, and a splash of creamer.

For iced coffee, I really like the STOK (unsweet, black), also with some creamer. Really delicious. Costs about $6 from the store and you can get a good 8-10 glasses of iced coffee out of it, not a bad deal.

We switched to Keurig about ten years ago after 20 years with Bunn. Every cup is hot and fresh, and since I only drink one a day it works out great. Load the dishwasher while the coffee is brewing.

I'm about to haul out my Breville espresso machine, though.

Is this a routine or just a random example? If a routine, do you not put the dishwasher on at night?

I dislike the hassle of a drip machine, even though it makes, for me, the best coffee.

I have a Nespresso machine in the cabinet. Coffee is good, but it's never quite warm enough - I used to nuke the cup just to heat it up. Also the Nespresso pods are expensive - about $1 each.

Keurig is great for convenience, but it's never quite that really rich, rich taste you get with drip.

I have a French press cup. It holds about 12 ounces of liquid. I put two heaping tablespoons of whatever coffee I want, fill it with water from the instant hot in the sink, and I'm good after about 1 minute.

Only if we finish early. It is more prudent to be around when the dishwasher is running in case it decides to spring a leak.

They now have combination drip and k-cup units. I considered one recently but I like a thermal carafe and the only dual models I saw have glass

I would still like to get one. I’d still use drip mode in the morning but the dual mode would be great for those times when I just want a quick single cup in the late afternoon.

Thank you for your attention to this matter.

                      https://aeropress.com/

Best cup of coffee you can make.

No matter what the method, it helps tremendously to have freshly roasted beans and grind them right before making your coffee.

Time for me to go make a cup.

I was using French Press for years until I found the Aeropress.

Single cup. So, not for bulk drinkers. It helps me limit my intake. Too much coffee was causing issues with sleep, and anxiety.

On occasion I will pull out the Espresso maker.

Switched to French Press a year ago and have loved it since. The crema can’t be found with drip coffee. Also I use heavy cream, because I’m fat and of questionable sexual orientation.

                            You people don't drink coffee.

I drink mugs. Usually two before breakfast, one after. One or two in the afternoon and occasionally one after dinner.

@Mark - I used the Aeropress for years as my daily go-to. Great little do-dad.

@LuFins-Dad If you want to "step up" the drip machine - look into something like the Bonavita. The only thing different there is that the water is heated to a precise, controlled range so you get a consistently good cup of coffee.

The other place to invest is a good burr grinder.

The big difference between french press and drip is the paper filter. On a french press you get all the coffee oil (cafestol, I think), and in drip the paper filters out almost all of it. Some people like the taste of that oil, some don't.

Another good way to modify the flavor is to feed coffee beans to your cat, and then sieve through the cat litter and then shove all of the bits that don't smell too rank into the good old Mr. Coffee machine.

It's a bit of a hassle, but trust me, you'll be truly astonished by the taste.

I’d have to see a picture of the monkey first.

Although it's called monkey poop coffee, they don't actually digest the beans, just chew and spit them out.
