The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Sounds like Bier was a true friend of Hildebrandt.

He also developed the "Bier Block," a form of regional anesthesia commonly used for minor upper-extremity surgery.

Medicine has come along way since the 1850's.

          A long, long way.

Shoot, that's nothing. Thousands do that all over this country every day. Drunkenness is established when the upper extremity becomes too anesthetized to lift the bier can.

I remember seeing a documentary about the greatest advances in medicine since those times. There were many, but these stick out.

              1. Antibiotics & Vaccines
              2. Safe anesthesia
              3. The use of plastics in medicine
              4. Oxygen therapy
              5. Insulin
              6. Anticoagulants
              7. Sterile technique
