Shinzo Abe assassinated

I was wondering if there would be genuine interest in this story or if it would only be considered useful insofar as we could work it into local culture war issues.

I don't have equal insights into all world countries and cultures, but I'd say that this kind of behavior is really particularly pronounced in US politics. Nobody seems to give a damn about anything that happens elsewhere unless it can be used as a tool to support other goals. If you look at "foreign news" sections of US newspapers and compare it with those of other countries, a strong implicit filter becomes visible.

I share that sentiment.

No you didn't. You just made that up.
But it is interesting as a view into Japanese politics. Do you think this guy had a serious purpose or he was just another whackadoodle?

My Japanese colleague said he thought it was most likely a one-off. He said ex-military folk in Japan tend to be less rebellious than average, and I think the suspect is ex-navy?

National Communistic Radio.
If there is any entity that ought to play it right down the middle, it's NPR and NPB.

As I have said before...If you are willing to die to kill somebody, no security can prevent that.
None.

You have to be pretty focused and motivated too. And you still might fail. I have no doubt there were plenty of people who would have traded their life to end Trump’s. But they lacked the focus and motivation and know-how.

I have my passport out today, as I’m heading to Portugal in a few hours.
I’ll have you know that in the space reserved for “Place of Birth”, mine says “Dallas, TX”.
