They're getting it wrong...

Watched a piece on the news this morning about the conversations black parents have with their children, regarding interactions with police. That's a good conversation to have.
At the right age.
Part of the piece was a video made previously, of a father teaching his eight year-old daughter how to put her hands in the air and tell the police she is unarmed and means them no harm. The child then dissolves into tears.
At the horrible, racist police.
The conversation is not a bad one to have, but it's not a conversation to have with a black eight year-old, especially of obviously middle-to-upper class background. It's a conversation you have when the child can understand a bit of nuance. Maybe at twelve or thirteen.
If you teach a young child all bugs are bad, they'll scream when they see a butterfly.

The part of the racism narrative that disappoints me the most is how it damages the psyches of black folk who should be way more optimistic about their prospects in life than we tell them they should be. But the progressives pushing the narratives don't give that aspect of it a single thought, from what I can tell. And now we have a population of people of color who go to sleep every night worried that a cop will murder their child.
