    I grew facial hair for the first time in 1970. I kept it, nonstop, until 1985 when, on a whim, I shaved it.

    Having just done that, D2 saw me as I exited the bathroom. Her reaction was more animated. She was terrified by the new person in her house.

      We had the opposite. When my daughter was in college I grew my beard, a mostly multicolored affair with a lot of gray and white mixed in. She came home for Christmas and said, “Aughh! Homeless!”

        @Mik I re-grew mine in 1997.

        It took a while to get past that "Lower Wacker Drive" look.

        (Chicago people will know what I mean.)

          Just for fun, I grew a goatee one time when I had 10 days off work in Canada.

          I looked in the mirror, and saw somebody resembling a suspected sex-offender looking back at me. It came off.

          Oddly enough, Mrs. Phibes said she thought it suited me.

          I was only joking

              Funny video. George... my dad did the same thing (always had a beard) and I remember one time at the beach, when I was probably 10 or so, he shaved it off and none of us liked it. We said he looked like Frankenstein.

                I hadn't thought about that, the reaction of a young child to the unfamiliar dad. What did your daughter do, George?

                  Every once in a while I'll skip a couple of days to have that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad look that was all the rage a while back. My one brother said, "yeah, that looks great if you're 35, but at a certain age, you just look look like a vagrant." I don't think I could ever do the real deal.
