Maybe.
I don't know enough about them. However, getting power down from the roof has some major issues:
- Cost
- HOA approval to get it down from the roof of the 4th floor to my unit on the 2nd floor. I'd probably have to go through Peter's condo above me. That's a really big deal, and there's probably no practical way to do it, regardless of cost.
For the 3-4 days a year when it's an issue, it's not worth it. Couple of years ago we lost power for 36 hours in the middle of summer. Stayed at a hotel while they fixed it. Cheaper and very little hassle, actually.
A while ago I asked about getting power into my parking spot in the basement garage for plugging in an EV. Cost is prohibitive.

Just wondered if you had any windows that opened. There's some pretty neat small units on the market now that will run a frig or a tv or a few fans.

That was some wind storm, George. I hate to see those gorgeous big trees taken down by a storm, not to mention the damage to the buildings as well. You have such a lovely community. It's sad to see such damage, but it sounds like no lives were lost.

Yeah 16 of them. But none of them are near the electrical panel so as to make a generator useful.
It's probably against the condo declaration, but I'm too lazy to look it up.
We've never been without power for more than 24 hours or so. The last time it happened, last year, we opened the windows of the condo and stayed at a local hotel. Figured the cats and Sid would survive.

Very nice to see the community help each other out. We had a house in our neighborhood have their AC go out (yesterday we randomly hit near 100) and folks stepped up to help them out too.
For a fan near an open window, looks like the best placement isn't IN the window (as many would think, including me until now) but about 2-4 feet away:

Does your building have natural gas? If so, you might get everyone to spring for a whole building unit.

We have an emergency generator for hallway lighting, water pump, etc. However, it does not go into the units.
With a building of only 22 units, I doubt the association would like to ask for a special assessment to purchase and wire a generator for the 2 days a year when we're without power.
At our next association meeting, I'll try to remember to bring it up. I'm sure it'll get lots of laughs.
