If one really wants to see media influence in public perception, look no further than Obama, Trump and Biden presidencies. Whether you support or abhor their actions in office, look at how the media, particularly MSM, has covered them.

The coverage has been neither objective or fair. The public is being fed biased information and the media is effecting policy by perception.

We are not Russia, but note what a one-note media can accomplish with the public.

I thought this was a good read.

These days, I am more convinced than ever that I want to keep the guns I have. Surprised how many people think we should rely on police and politicians to protect us and have our best interests at heart.

There was a brief period during the summer of 2020 when you started to see the protest mob head down residential streets and it was at that time I thought, "if this ever gets close to my house/family, I will make sure my firearm is ready to go". Right now (and always) it's locked away and would take quite a few minutes to get to.

        Then, it's next to useless.

Nah, @89th is just doing his best to balance safety, access, and observance of relevant state law. The guy still has kids in his household.

I had kids in my house. I still have grandkids. My guns are safe. And I can have one in my hand and ready to rock before you can count to 10.

@Jolly Have you thought about moving to a politer neighborhood?

                You were warned.

I'm all for the 2nd Amendment, but I am also concerned about the current gun fetish movement. Things are being taken to extremes on both sides.

I have a very quiet neighborhood. Except for petty theft by the dopers.

I think we've had two murders in forty years.

I don't think you'd see quite as much of the tacticool stuff, if people were pushing anti-gun laws so much. Some of this stuff is just a mild form of rebellion.

I do not have it for "middle of the night" defense, on purpose. I have it more for "if societal shit hits the fan" defense. Would I regret that if an intruder invades my home? Of course, but we moved to a very safe neighborhood on purpose, too.
