I love bananas -- or I used to. Now I mostly love them for what they used to be. I haven't actually tasted a banana that tastes like banana for many years. They are virtually without flavor. It's very sad.

Is this your experience? Or am I losing my ability to taste stuff?

I can’t answer those questions. But I do know that there is about a 24 hour window between green and overripe wherein lay the perfect banana. I had one this morning and it was glorious.

This is exactly right. The banana has to be neither green nor spotted with brown, then it is bliss.

I disagree, you need just a little brown…

But @Catseye3 isn’t wrong, it is harder to come across a really excellent banana. But a bad one can still be saved with a little peanut butter.

Try baby bananas if you can find it.
Most typical American grocery stores don‘t carry them, but maybe you can find them at Asian grocery stores or places like Whole Foods.

They still make that. I haven't seen it locally, but there's a candy store in New Orleans where we found Turkish Taffy. It wasn't banana-flavored, but it was damn good.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.
