We were pilloried with stories about gatherings without masks and just look at what is happening in all the cities around the country over the last 48 hours.

And nary of a peep. Did the cities move from the red zone to the green zone? What are the new social distancing guidelines, is this even a thing anymore?

    I feel gaslight.

        https://nypost.com/2020/05/29/george-floyd-protests-okay-amid-coronavirus-gathering-ban-de-blasio/

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Friday welcomed peaceful mass protests in the Big Apple over the police-involved death of George Floyd — even as he has staunchly barred other demonstrations, religious gatherings and fined small businesses $1,000 for reopening.

“I want to just say anyone who wants to protest, we’re going to protect your right to protest, but please also respect [that] the cop in front of you did not create the problem,” de Blasio said on WNYC radio’s “The Brian Lehrer Show...”

While many protesters in the city wore protective face masks, they largely flouted social-distancing rules...

De Blasio said nothing about the demonstrators violating city and state rules against large gatherings, even though he insisted earlier this month that rallies “spread the disease and help kill people.”

In early May, nine protesters pushing for the Empire State to reopen from its coronavirus lockdown were busted outside City Hall for not obeying social distancing guidelines.

At the time, Blasio said gatherings, including the small reopen protest, are prohibited.

“We’re not allowing any kind of gathering, period,” the mayor said at a press briefing.

“I don’t care if it’s 20 people or a hundred people or a thousand people, it’s not going to be allowed. So the point is, if you gather, NYPD is coming there to give you a summons and if you resist, to arrest you, period, across all communities.

“So no, of course this organization is not allowed to hold a rally that goes against every rule we’ve got. They can express themselves online. There’s all sorts of other ways, but if they attempt to hold a rally, they will be summonsed immediately, and that’s true for people of any viewpoint. We’re not doing rallies at this point. They spread the disease and help to kill people. It’s unacceptable,” he said.

@mik I think Loki's talking about the lack of enforcement of "social distancing" regulations, not the actual spread of the virus - which is probably inevitable. Let's see how it pans out in a couple of weeks. This will make the choir and funeral events look like nothing, I fear.

The saying, "Lite is just one damn thing after another," is a gross understatement. The damn things overlap.

Well, here's my nasty statement for the day...I'd rather see rioters buried due to the virus, than choir members.

The thread title was about COVID spread. That may be about the regulations, but to do so would only inflame the situation and further crowd the petri dishes of the jails.

There's a lag from about 10-15 days between when someone gets infected, and when they seek hospitalization. If you feel gaslit it's because you haven't looked into this properly and you seek conclusions that fit your worldview about the economy.

I don't think we have to wait for data to know whether these riots are a Covid spreading no-no.

My guess is the impact will be material. Though it helps that it's all occurring outside.

BTW, I agree it's way too soon to see cases pop up from the riots. With these being outdoor events and many wearing masks of various types, perhaps not much of a spike in new Covid cases will occur. Of course, the rioters may become asymptomatic carriers, and spread it to their family and friends, who can then spread it some more.

At least the rioters who came here from other states can take it back home again. A gift that keeps on giving!

My slant was really about main stream media ridicule of those who don’t abide by the lockdown and states where the lockdown is easing and what that means for spread and how not wearing masks is causing round 2. So here we are with super spreader events all across the country and the media is struggling to tell us a story of why these protests are important.

                              I mean WTF.

All of America's dumbest cultural ideas are around race. They exist because everybody is terrified of being seen thinking about anything beyond the sharp good vs evil outlines the narrative has painted.

That’s the worst part. No true and effective change can be effected without addressing the root of the problem. Unfortunately, the racist theme WILL carry the day, and all we can do is watch in astonishment and dismay as they proceed to make things worse.

“Health experts fear that silent carriers of the virus who have no symptoms could unwittingly infect others at protests where people are packed cheek to jowl, many without masks.”

Now that we’ve got this one covered, maybe you can go find another topic on which to blame the press of bias. 😉

Oh, shame on Trump‘s CDC for not publishing any public health guidelines on how to safely protest/riot during the COVID-19 pandemic. 👿

Yeah. You found an article. I actually don’t believe you believe it proved your case so why would I?

Dude it's going to take about 2 weeks to see, that's the lag time.

                                          Please love yourself.
