There are a couple of fire watch shelters on the AT like that. Not furnished or insulated though, of course.
Do they still have those on the West side of the US? I met someone who was applying to spend a summer as a "fire watcher" in the West. Basically, his job would be to live in one of those shelters for the summer and scan for fires.
Dont know if the humans have been replaced with satellite or not.

Yes, I believe they do @taiwan_girl - I saw a story about it recently. Some lady spends 9 months a year there and gets a LOT of reading done.

I agree it's rare for a concept, artsy game to be fun to play, but genre indie games are often good. FTL for instance started out as a two week mini-game created by two people for a competition, then got fleshed out after being well received.

I agree it's rare for a concept, artsy game to be fun to play, but genre indie games are often good. FTL for instance started out as a two week mini-game created by two people for a competition, then got fleshed out after being well received.
My son would probably say there are a ton of good indie games. I go to him to see what the young folk are doing. It keeps me fab and groovy.
The Stanley Parable was excellent - a while back, now, but started as a Half Life mod. So did Portal, one of my favourite games of all time.

My kids are 18 and 20, so less demanding in some ways, more in others. One of them even cooks my dinner. I don't have that much time TBH, but I try to fit in an hour here and there. It's either that, or tinker about with music, and sadly music mostly loses out. It's good for my mental health, -admittedly music is better, just more difficult.

Yeah I have basically zero time for games, golf, movies. Have kids they say... it'll be fun they say... Seriously though, right now I usually have 9-10pm to try and watch a show, otherwise all my other time is spent (sleeping, getting up 2-3x a night with the toddler, working from about 5am-2pm, helping kids, house projects, dinner, bath time, bed time... and then back to the 9-10pm window of freedom.)

How does that explain Aqua, though?
Seriously? Man, do I miss time… between the big one (and even though he’s at college, he is taking up more of my time than in hs… Multiple calls and texts, helping to set up and manage his applications, searching for a car, etc…) and the little one (who is on a kick where he won’t lay down unless someone lays down with him, which results with Karla coming home at 9:30 and finding me asleep on the edge of the toddler bed, try being productive after waking up at 9:30 having slept for 45 minutes…) and work (which is unbelievably good right now, but I don’t dare let up because the whole squirreling away for winter thing…
TV and movies? Doesn’t happen… Still haven’t finished The Expanse. Reading? No time, Audible while driving or on my walks. TNCR? 10 minute breaks here and there…

The years when the kids were very young are nothing but a blur for me now - it was just nuts. Then suddenly, they're no longer little kids, and it feels more than a bit like being in mourning for something.
I really miss those days - everything was a lot busier, but also a lot simpler.

I can empathize. I have to wake up at 8 am to take my dogs out. Sometimes I can’t get to bed before 9 pm. Then I have to take a shower at least every other day.

Sometimes I wake up early to do photo things. Lately I've been doing long exposures with a Holga.8:45 - 9 AM
At this point, I definitely wake up, then get tea ready.9 AM - 11 AM
Morning meetings + tea ingestion.11 AM - 5 PM
A juggle between my work, my wife's work, and taking care of the kiddo. My wife's company laid off everyone with her job title a couple weeks ago, so she's a contractor now, treated terribly and it's beyond a nightmare. So on the one hand, she's checked out and is a little more flexible with her time, but on the other, day care isn't an option at present. So each day we play games with the kiddo, read books, go on walks, have lunch together, tear through coloring books and whatever else. Some days I'm never around for this, some days my wife isn't because of meetings + interviews. It all depends. No, it's not ideal. Yes, it's reality until we figure out next steps.5 PM - 8 PM
Family time. Also making dinner (usually my thing), going on errands together. House stuff together if it's around to do.8 PM - kiddo crashes. I do a story with her and we roshambo for who stays with her until she passes out. (She's at that age now.)
9 PM - 2 AM
When I worked in offices, I could at least be by myself for some portions of the day. Not so now. There's always someone around. Always. Which I am not good at. So by 9 PM or so, my wife and I will either read stuff together, watch stuff together, or she declares me officially insufferable to be around. (You've met me. How often do you think this happens?) So this is when I might do stuff like games, photo editing, working on my bike, riding said bike, etc.On the weekends we hit the house stuff harder, in addition to getting out and doing longer family activities. Hiking, riding bikes, just walking around, etc.

5:30 AM - Coffee, Feed dog, walk dog. Take care of a few work things
6:00 - 7:30AM - Karla leaves for her morning animals. I shower and dress for work, check emails, news, social media. More coffee.
7:30 - 8:30 Get Finley situated and eating his breakfast.
8:30 or so Karla get's home , leave for work.
6:00PM get home, Karla leaves. Play with Finley until 6:30 or so.
6:30 Start dinner and basic kitchen chores...
7:00 - 7:30 Dinner
7:30 - 8:00 Playtime with Finley
8:00 - 8:30 Bathtime or extended getting ready for bed...
8:30 - Put Finley in his bed
8:31 - Fall asleep next to him
9:30 - Karla gets home. Wakes me up. Asks if I want to watch a movie. I respond "sleeping...."Rinse and repeat.
