I wonder if Musk would have been allowed (or maybe he did?) to bet on the value of Twitter stocks before he bought the actual stocks. He could presumably make (another) fortune that way.

Well in a sense he did that. He acquired a big chunk before it was public that he was buying. So he already had the shares when the price jumped on the news of him buying shares.

Yes, but he would need to sell those stocks again to make a profit. He could pull this off only once - next time investors would not fall for this again.

But if he'd buy stock options before buying the actual stock, he could make a nice profit without having to sell the stocks.

                    He took a board seat.

“Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board,” CEO Parag Agrawal said in a tweet.

Employees will resign if and only if they don't believe doing so entails any personal sacrifice.

Well ok, but the message wasn't exaggerated, so it didn't sniff of satire. It was slightly surprising since Elon isn't a tribal conservative, but he's not woke enough to pass muster with pop culturalites in silicon valley. And it was only one person, so totally believable. Though the profile pick didn't look like a gay man, that is true enough. Neither does Dave Rubin, one of the rubes who fell for it.
