Hell, this takes a concerted NATO effort and I know they're not up for this, let alone our own government.
Being proven wrong would be awesome, of course.

He should know.
The problem with offering Putin an outlet is that he will regard it as effete weakness and we ourselves will interpret it as short term appeasement.
Either way though Ukraine pays dearly.
