What do you think the odds are that Russia will cut off energy supplies to Europe?

    Better than 50/50.

But they would be cutting their own economic throat.

Was listening to a former economic advisor to Putin this afternoon on BBC World Service who now lives in in the USA. Same questions posed to him as are in this thread. His analysis was that the effect of economic sanctions on the Russian economy are lost on Putin. He has zero understanding of economics and business and approaches everything as a conspiratorial exercise that involves brute force.

Get him to spend 5 minutes in this forum and he will be a world class economist.

It seems like Russia may be on a return to the USSR days. More and more state control of the economy.

Double digit inflation, long gas lines, people smoking a bunch of weed, war in the Middle East, people up in arms over school segregation, racial riots in the streets, what exactly has fundamentally changed?

We’ll know for certain when Putin discards his blue business suit in exchange for a peasant’s shirt and jackboots a la Stalin or a more modern proletarian tunic along the lines of the House of Xi.
