Sony 1000xm4
I have those. Working from home + toddler + my job is NOT multi-taskable = I considered it a worthy investment.
It absolutely is. The noise cancelling is about the best you can find without financing a set of headphones. Sound quality is excellent, and the equalizer is inherently neutral but open to calibration, so if you care about that sort of thing, there you go.
Wow… I’m just looking for something to listen to Audible or podcasts while I’m cooking or walking the dog…

If you're just listening to voice, why not go with a set of cheapo earbuds. That's worked for me just fine.

Same. I have a cheap pair for bike-riding. Lots of manufacturers make various styles now so the old complaint of "they don't fit my ears" isn't really true anymore.

@Aqua-Letifer there are also over-the-ear that use bone conduction.
@kluurs has a set of those and they're pretty nice.

Never been fond of the feel or the pressure. Frankly, I’m also not looking for noise cancellation, either. If anything, I would like something open air… The bone transducer option sounds cool, but probably more than what I was looking for.

@Aqua-Letifer if you're not looking for high fidelity, there are TONS of cheapo options out there. Many of them allow you control your iPhone/android phone from the earbud/headphone.
I think I paid about $30 for mine, and for voice/books/podcasts they're perfect. I bought two pair, because the first ones died after a year. At $30, I though it was a pretty good investment.
(geezer alert)
As I mentioned, I needed to get hearing aids...and they will stream bluetooth to my phone as well. They're not great for music, but for voice, they're unbeatable. So easy.

I wear these everywhere and embarrassed that most of the photos people take of me have me wearing them. I listen to audiobooks and podcasts all the time - running and doing whatever else needs to be done.
I have these too. I wanted a pair I could wear while running but also hear noise around me.
I basic set of AirPods may be what you want, @LuFins-Dad . I was pleasantly surprised when I first started using them. Pairs easily, comfortable, good audio.

Again, over ear, not in ear. Thanks!
Earbuds are like shrimp… You tell somebody you don’t like them and you get nonstop recommendations to try them “this way”

@LuFins-Dad sorry, missed that. I also have Bose Quiet Comfort for airplanes (and noise canceling).

OK, you asked for it
$29.99, I wear them while mowing the lawn
On the first pair they sent the ANC button did little, if any, noise cancellation, so I gave them a poor review.
They said they would send a new pair and let me keep the original if I gave them a good review.
So I got 2 pairs for $29.99. The ANC doesn't do very much but at $15 each I didn't care. I bought them about 3 years ago. One pair is still working. The USB plug broke on the other pair.

It's more like seafood these days, with the varieties out there.

The bone conduction headphones are neither in nor over the ear.
