This is becoming a frequent story in Chicago. At lease 2-3 per day.

    Now, we're seeing it elsewhere:

I live about 4 miles from Broadview.

Good reason to drive a beater.

I’m curious about their votes on police funding…

There's been an increase in carjackings in this area too. Enough for the local news to cover it more. As expected, the news is happy to omit descriptions that involve race. I think it's part of an overall increase in "caveman crimes" (my term) as a result of the 2020 anti-police protests.

The mentality is probably similar to the "Smash & Grab" robberies in stores. Probably reasonable reward and probably reasonably low risk.

              https://thehill.com/changing-america/well-being/mental-health/540677-new-bill-funds-mental-health-experts-not-police-to

Congress wants to make it easier for state and local governments to defund the police by instead funding mental health services and empowering them to respond to emergency calls instead of armed officers.

“We should be connecting people in crisis to care, not tossing them in jail,” Rep. Katie Porter, who reintroduced the bill on Thursday, said in a statement. “Mental illness is not a crime, and we have to stop treating it like one. Most police officers are not trained to care for individuals experiencing mental health crises, which too often tragically leads to unnecessary violence.”

The Mental Health Justice Act has the backing of Reps. Ayanna Pressley (D-Mass.), Tony Cardenas (D-Calif.) and Mary Gay Scanlon (D-Pa.), as well as Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Cory Booker (D-N.J.).

Local policing is s not and should not be a federal issue

Years ago, there was an absolute wave of armed robberies of 7-11 stores in Dallas. It was finally decided to have a cop sit in the cooler and shoot the robbers as soon as they pulled a gun on the clerk. The operation was to take place over three days - Friday, Saturday, Sunday.

Friday night, the Dallas cops killed a couple of perps. Saturday night, robberies were down, and one perp was wounded. Sunday night, there were no convenience store robberies in Dallas. None. Regardless of owners.

                    Moral of the story?

The animals on the street do respond to the need for self preservation. And word travels fast on the street.

A retired Chief of Police tweeted:

"A lot more to this story. Think about this, why was the Senator driving a loaner Mercedes Benz SUV with her official State Senator license plates on the car? The dealer would not let you or I do that-she wanted the police, & others, to know who she is & not get stopped by police."

The second photo looks like somebody had a small accident with Photoshop's Liquify tool.
